Iran's President Pezeshkian said Tuesday that Tehran would return to the June ceasefire agreement if the US honored its commitments. He offered to match whatever the US chose to do. This was Tehran's most direct overture in weeks and explicitly named the terms Iran wanted back.

The offer hit immediate opposition. The US military struck 60 targets across the Strait of Hormuz in 48 hours, hitting Iranian positions tied to mines and tanker attacks. Iran retaliated by attacking US bases in Kuwait. Trump dismissed the Iranian offer on Wednesday, saying he "couldn't care less" about any deal. He also said he might rename the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait" and promised US strikes would continue "at any time."

Trump's refusal to engage with Iran's opening has closed off the easiest path to talks. The 60-day interim agreement both sides signed in June has already collapsed. Iran is testing whether a direct, conditional offer to restart talks gains traction. The US response has been to ignore the words and intensify bombing. Neither side is backing down from military operations. The next 72 hours will show whether escalation in the Strait continues unchecked or whether any US official revisits the ceasefire language Iran just offered.
